Let’s Get to Know Each Other!

WE HAVE A NEW POSITION AVAILABLE AT CITY SEED AT THE STATION.

Sales Floor Team Member (Part-Time)

Are you someone who loves plants and people? Is City Seed one of your favorite places in Anderson? We're hiring for a part-time team member who brings enthusiasm, reliability and a flexible, can-do attitude.

We're a small business and a small team, so no two days at the Station are exactly alike. You may be helping a customer find the perfect plant and pot one minute, unpacking a new delivery the next, and then helping us reset the shop for Plant Bingo that evening.

We're looking for someone who enjoys that kind of environment and is comfortable taking initiative rather than always waiting to be told what comes next.

Hours Needed:

  • Approximately 15–25 hours per week, generally 2–3 shifts

  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday availability required

  • Two Saturdays per month required

  • Afternoon availability is important

  • Occasional availability for evening or extended-hour events is a plus

  • Additional hours may be available during busier seasons, events or as our needs grow

Specific weekly hours will be discussed during the interview.

College students: We welcome college applicants, but this is not intended to be a semester-only position. You must be able to work consistently throughout the school year and remain locally available during our important retail seasons, including December and May/university breaks.

What We're Looking For:

  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude

  • Dependable, punctual and accountable

  • Friendly and genuinely enjoys working with people

  • Able to take initiative and work independently

  • Comfortable being responsible for the sales floor without constant supervision once trained

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable learning our Square register system and doing basic internet research

  • Creative eye—we are constantly styling and restyling the Station

  • Comfortable representing City Seed with a warm, professional presence both inside the shop and occasionally out in the community

  • Comfortable standing for extended periods of time

  • Able to lift and move up to 25 lbs., including soil, birdseed, pottery and plants

  • Reliable transportation

  • Plant and gardening knowledge is strongly preferred, but curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential

What You'll Do:

  • Greet and assist customers

  • Run checkout using Square

  • Help customers find the right plants, pots, gifts and gardening products

  • Learn our inventory so you can confidently make recommendations

  • Water, prune, monitor and care for plant inventory

  • Watch for potential plant pests or other concerns

  • Unpack, price and process deliveries

  • Restock and merchandise new arrivals

  • Style and refresh displays throughout the Station

  • Help monitor inventory and communicate restock needs

  • Support general shop upkeep and cleanliness

  • Help prepare for Plant Bingo, Make n' Takes, classes, private groups and seasonal events

  • Occasionally assist with adult and children's classes or groups

As you become familiar with City Seed, we're looking for someone who can confidently help keep the Station running when the owner needs to step away—including handling customers, the register and the unexpected things that naturally come with a small retail business.

A Little More About Working at City Seed:

Plants are at the heart of City Seed, but what happens at the Station continues to grow.

Fall and spring are especially busy for gardeners and seed sales, and our calendar now includes Plant Bingo, Make n' Takes, educational programs, private groups and seasonal events. Our commercial plant design and maintenance services are growing as well.

That growth makes having a dependable sales-floor team especially important.

Small-business retail also means everyone pitches in. Sometimes everyone waters. Sometimes everyone unloads a delivery. Sometimes we're moving tables and chairs because a group is about to arrive.

Flexibility, initiative and a willingness to jump in are a big part of being on our team.
