Healthy gardens start in the soil — and understanding what’s happening below the surface is one of the most powerful tools a gardener can have.

Join us for this free educational session led by Samantha Brown, Anderson County Horticulture Agent with Clemson Extension, as she walks us through why soil testing matters, how to submit samples, and how to actually understand what those results are telling you.

This session is perfect for anyone planting vegetables, flowers, lawns, or landscapes in the Upstate this spring.

What we’ll cover

• Why soil testing matters for healthy plants
• How and where to submit your soil samples
• How to read and understand your results
• What common recommendations mean for Upstate gardens
• When to lime, fertilize, or adjust nutrients

Samantha will also bring real-life examples of common soil amendments recommended by Clemson Extension, along with a few blends she often uses in practice, so you can see and compare them up close.

She will bring:
• Soil sample bags and Clemson how-to pamphlets (yours to keep)
• A soil probe so you can see how samples are collected

She will also touch on organic fertility options that are not always included in standard soil reports and will reference Clemson’s HGIC resources for those who want to go that route.

Important Notes

• This is a free educational session
• Registration is required so we can plan seating
• Space is limited to 22 participants
• Designed for adults (18+)

Petrichor Coffee will be on-site from 8:30 AM–12:00 PM if you’d like to grab a cup before or after the session.
