Join us at City Seed at the Station for a soil blocking FLOWER workshop with our dear friend, Kelly Wilson of Slater Road Farm. We are thrilled to have her bring her workshop she has hosted at her farm to our little corner in downtown Anderson.
Why Start from seeds
Starting plants from seeds gives us an opportunity to accomplish a few things that would be hard otherwise. First, we can get more plants at a lower price. Seed packets generally cost less than one purchased plant.
Those tiny seeds
Watching those tiny seeds turn into plants that will send up beautiful blooms is incredibly rewarding!
Varieties useful for cut flowers are hard to find in most cases. Most stores carry bedding plants that do not get tall enough to be used as a cut flower. By purchasing seeds, we can have more options and unique plants that are not commonly found.
Soil blocks are compressed pellets of soil that you can sow your seeds directly into. While all the seeds you will starting can be seeded directly, soil blocking has many advantages.
Advantages:
Can start a lot of seedlings in a small amount of space indoors
Great for root development (air pruning)
Quicker growth
Easy transplanting
In class you will start seeds of: Basil, Cosmos, Marigold, Sunflower, and Zinnias. You will leave with 84 planted soil blocks. These are all unique varieties from Renee’s Garden. The cost of this fun, spring experience is $50 per person.
Space is limited and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED so sign up today!
